Timothy Garton Ash has won the 2017 Charlemagne Prize

We are delighted to report that Timothy Garton Ash will be honoured by the very prestigious Charlemagne Prize of Aachen. The International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen is the oldest and best-known prize awarded for work done in the service of European unification.

Former laureates have recently included Pope Francis, Donald Tusk, Angela Merkel and Jean Claude Juncker and - in the first years of the award - Konrad Adenauer, Winston Churchill and Robert Schumann.

The ceremony will take place on the 25th of May in Aachen and beforehand the city will be hosting two weeks of lectures and discussions relating to Timothy Garton Ash’s books and ideas.
