TV adaptation of Andrew O'Hagan's 'Mayflies' available to watch on BBC iPlayer
Synchronicity Films has developed a premium limited series for the BBC based on renowned author Andrew O’Hagan’s latest novel Mayflies, a heart-breaking story of an extraordinary lifelong friendship.
Written as a eulogy to his friend ‘Tully Dawson’, it concentrates on a group of teenage boys at the climax of their youth, their friendships built on music, film and rambunctious spirits. It’s set in two parts – the first in 1980s small-town Scotland, O’Hagan’s own Ayrshire, and then when they reconnect three decades later. O’Hagan has described it as ‘a love letter to male friendship and what that means’.
Mayflies won the Christopher Isherwood Prize and adds to the Esquire editor at large’s long list of accolades for fiction, non-fiction and journalism. Three of his novels have been Booker Prize nominated.
Mayflies is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer. Click here for Andrew O'Hagan's interview with Esquire on the adaptation.
