We welcome permissions requests for copyright material if the publisher of the work does not control the anthology and quotation rights. To make a request, please fill out our permission request form. You will receive a confirmation email after successfully submitting the form.
In most cases there will be a fee due, though each request is negotiated on a case-by-case basis. Our minimum fee for use of a limited amount of material is £100 (plus VAT where appropriate).
The UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 provides that copyright will not be infringed by ‘fair dealing’ but it does not define what ‘fair dealing’ itself means. Nor is there a percentage or quantitative measure to determine fair dealing. As such, we reserve the right to charge full Trade rates if we believe the aggregate amount of material quoted is substantial enough to do so.
We also draft our own letters formally granting permissions and issue our own invoices.
It can take months for rights holders to respond to permission requests so it is important to apply as far ahead of your deadline as you can.
The author images which appear on this site are subject to copyright laws and permission must be sought for any reproduction. Photographs of our authors may not be used without the prior consent of the copyright holder (usually the photographer) and a fee may be payable. To reach out to the copyright holder for each author's image, please consult the credit provided below the photograph, if available, to identify the appropriate contact person for obtaining permission. If there's no photographer credit, we can check with the author if they own the image's copyright.
