To Eugene, girls are like money - they have to be saved. His daughters, Bridie, Kitty and Rose, seem doomed to a Victorian childhood. But as their fortunes decline and the family are forced to take in lodgers, eccentric outsiders introduce the girls to new experiences and the liberal 1960s.
