The Sorrow Of War

Set in the Vietnam War. Kien is responsible for retrieving and burying the dead at the scene of one of the bloodiest battles of the war. The novel ranges back to his youth and the pains of adolescent love, and forward, to his attempts to come to terms with the savagery of the war.
