Kate Sawyer

Kate Sawyer was born in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, where she grew up in the countryside as the eldest of four siblings, after briefly living with her parents in Qatar and the Netherlands.

Kate trained in acting at Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. She is a founding ensemble member of award-winning theatre company The Faction and has performed in many classical and comedy roles as well as writing and producing theatre and film for her own company The Curious Room.

After leaving Suffolk Kate has lived predominantly in South London but has travelled widely. She lived for short periods in Australia and New York, where she studied Meisner Technique with Maggie Flanigan and comedy improvisation at Upright Citizen’s Brigade. Alongside acting, Kate’s resting jobs have included event production, general management of a restaurant and running a health food shop and cafe.

After writing for performance - adapting Lorca, writing short films and plays - Kate has now turned her hand to fiction and her first novel is due to be published in 2021.

She has recently returned to East Anglia where she lives with her young daughter, whom she conceived as a solo mother by choice.
