Emily Balistrieri
Emily Balistrieri is an American based in Japan translating novels, picture books, manga, and more. His translation of Tomihiko Morimi's The Tatami Galaxy was a finalist for the 2023 PEN Translation Prize. Other works include Ao Omae's People Who Talk to Stuffed Animals Are Nice, Eiko Kadono's Kiki's Delivery Service, Shaw Kuzki's Soul Lanterns, and Takuji Ichikawa's The Refugees' Daughter. Short fiction in his translation has appeared in a number of places including the Kenyon Review, the Southern Review, and Samovar. Openly trans, he is always happy to be tapped for projects such as Oto Toda's To Strip the Flesh and Poppy Pesuyama's Until I Love Myself. He did the English subtitles for Takahide Hori's award-winning film Junk Head and occasionally works on videogames such as Cocosola's The Witch's Isle.
