Sandra Dieckmann is an author and illustrator who works from her studio in East London. Deeply influenced by her childhood in northern Germany spent exploring outside and reading European folklore by the likes of the Brothers Grimm and Astrid Lindgren, her artwork now revolves around her love for nature, wildlife and dreams.
Sandra's beautifully written and illustrated debut picture book, Leaf (Flying Eye Books), was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize. Her second book, The Dog That Ate The World (Flying Eye Books), won the Teach Early Years Award 2019. Sandra's work is woven with magic and wonder - Waiting For Wolf (Hodder), is a moving tale about friendship, loss and learning to carry on while, The Magic Feather (Hachette), is an empowering story about finding your own special spark.
In Grimm's Fairy Tales (Walker) twenty classic stories get a gently modernized twist in Sandra's beautifully illustrated collection of treasured and lesser-known fairy tales.
Sandra's next book is The Underwater Moon (January 2026, Hodder). A magical and exquisitely illustrated story about how even the smallest voices can bring a whole community together.
Sandra's portfolio includes a wide range of international commissions and projects, such as book illustrations, editorial, apparel and much more. In 2011, she was chosen by Oscar-winning animator and illustrator Shaun Tan as the Emerging Talent in Illustration for her image ‘Fox Tree’.
