Richard Powers

Richard Powers was born in Illinois, USA, moving to Thailand when he was 11 and subsequently returning to the US when he was 16. He completed a degree in English at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, also earning an MA in Literature in 1978.

He published his first book, Three Farmers on their way to a Dance in 1985, where it was very well received. His ninth book, The Echo Maker, about a man suffering from Capgras syndrome, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for fiction, while his 2014 novel Orfeo was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize.

His latest novel is 2018’s The Overstory, which won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and was also longlisted for the 2018 Man Booker Prize.
