Darran McCann
Darran McCann was born in Co. Armagh in 1979. He read English at Trinity College Dublin and took a Masters degree at Dublin City University before becoming a well-known journalist with Belfast’s Irish News. He left journalism in order to write and study under Glenn Patterson and Ciaran Carson at Queen’s University Belfast, where he teaches creative writing. In 2010 received the first doctorate in creative writing ever awarded by an Irish university, for his novel, After the Lockout. The first part of his Flags and Emblemstrilogy, a thematic series spanning a century, After the Lockout was published by Fourth Estate in early 2012. His play, Confession, was produced at the Brian Friel Theatre in Belfast in 2008. He lives in Belfast with his wife and son.
