Jay Gao

Jay Gao is a Chinese-Scottish writer, translator, critic, editor, and MFA student at Brown University. His publications include Granta, The Guardian, The White Review, The Poetry Review, 3:AM Magazine and Modern Poetry in Translation. His debut poetry pamphlet Wedding Beasts (2019) was shortlisted for the Saltire-Calum MacDonald Memorial Award, and his second pamphlet Katabasis (2020) was a winner of the New Poets Prize. He is a Contributing Editor for The White Review, Reviewer for Harriet Books at the Poetry Foundation, and is a mentor for the Ledbury Poetry Critics programme. He was also the co-founder of the Scottish BAME Writers Network. Currently, he is based in Providence, Rhode Island, and Edinburgh, Scotland.

 

He is working on a debut collection of poetry as well as a collection of short stories.
