Claire Kohda is a writer and professional orchestral violinist from Margate. Her essays and book reviews have appeared in the Guardian, the Observer, the Financial Times, the Times Literary Supplement and the Spectator. Daughter of a Japanese mother and an English father, she specialises in writing about Japan and Japanese literature in translation. Claire studied music at Kings College London and has since played with the English Chamber Orchestra and the Heritage Orchestra amongst other ensembles. While she mostly plays classical music, she has also performed with various artists and bands including Bruce Dickinson, Pete Tong, Jessie Ware and Deep Purple. Her father is dust artist, Paul Hazelton.
