Lucretia Grindle was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in England and The United States. She attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, and Oxford University. She worked as a free-lance journalist, specialising in feature length profile work and Sport, before turning to writing fiction full time. She has published six novels, including The Villa Triste and The Lost Daughter, which together are the first two parts of a trilogy dealing with Italy in the 20th century. She is currently working on a new work of fiction based on the life of her late mother who was half Apache. She is a co-founder, and the Director of The Blue Hill Writers Group, a two week workshop and symposium of new writing that takes place in Blue Hill, Maine in August. American Indian affairs and education are her major ‘serious’ preoccupation. On the not so weighty side, she counts a blue BMW motorcycle, a lurcher, and when she can remember Port from Starboard, sailing Penobscot Bay.
