Rachel Darwin

Rachel Darwin grew up in the Wiltshire countryside. At nine, she was in her first musical, which began a lifelong love of singing. At eleven, she started making fairy wings, which she sold at local festivals and wore wherever she went! At eighteen, she moved to London, where she worked as a singer, a singing teacher, and a nanny.
Rachel graduated from the Creative and Life Writing MA at Goldsmith’s in 2019. Before that, she studied English Literature at Roehampton University, focussing on children's books at Roehampton’s National Centre for Research in Children’s Literature.
In 2021, Rachel won the Bath Children’s Novel Award with her first children’s manuscript, The Doll’s House Mouse. You can read her winner’s interview here. In 2023, Rachel was shortlisted for the same award with her chapter book, Outfoxed.
After fifteen years in London, Rachel has lived with her husband in their wonky Georgian cottage near Bath since 2024.
