Martha Batalha

Martha Batalha was born in Recife and grew up in Rio de Janeiro. She worked as a reporter and founded a publishing company called Desiderata. She moved to New York in 2008 where she took a graduate course in Publishing at NYU and worked in publishing for a while. Her debut novel, THE INVIBLE LIFE OF EURIDICE GUSMAO (A vida invisível de Eurídice Gusmão) was shortlisted for the Jabuti and São Paulo award and longlisted for the Oceanos and Dublin award. It was published in eighteen territories and the film adaptation won the Prize Un Certain Regard at the Cannes festival in 2019. She lives in Santa Monica, California.
