Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida

Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida’s literary work and research reflects primarily on the afro-atlantic constellation by proposing new ways of conceiving beauty, human life and imagination after oppression. Her books have been translated into several languages and received several awards in Portugal and Brazil, including the Oceanos Prize, Serrote Essay Prize, Prémio Literário Fundação Inês de Castro, and FLUL Alumni Prize, awarded by Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa. Her writing has appeared widely in newspapers and literary journals across Europe and Brazil. Djaimilia collaborates with visual artists, composers and stage directors. She is a contributor to the Brazilian magazine Quatro Cinco Um.

She is professor at New York University. She was born in Luanda and lives in New York.
